With temperatures regularly lingering below freezing, don't forget to pack your ice skates this winter for your next Adirondack adventure!
While most people come here to go skiing or snowmobiling (great options, of course!) many don't think about the different ice skating venues the Adirondacks offer. A good deal of our towns have a man-made flooded rink, or the option to head out on a lake or pond for a little skating action.
Indian Lake
The Indian Lake Ski Hill and Skating Area has a rink that has open skating Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6-9 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Tuesdays and Thursday nights are reserved for hockey. There is even a small skiing and tubing hill. And the best part is, it's all free of charge!
Speculator
Every year, the public pavilion is fully enclosed and flooded making a great covered rink. Hit the ice with your skates and sticks for a little hockey, or just practice your triple axel. The skating rink is open from dawn to dusk every day.
Long Lake
In Long Lake at Geiger Arena you can take advantage of the open air skating rink that is formed there every year. The rink is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but open Monday and Thursday from 2:30-6 pm, Friday from 2:30-10 pm, Saturday from 12-10 pm, and Sunday from 12-6 pm. During school breaks they are open daily from 12-10 pm. Don't have your own skates? No problem! They have free skates available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is also a great sledding hill here!
Inlet
Fern Park in Inlet offers an enclosed rink for skaters. And if you forgot your skates, head over to Pedals & Petals to rent a pair. You can also get your own skates sharpened there. Fern Park is open from 9 am- 10 pm, and also boasts a lit tubing hill and 1.5k ski trail.
Pond Skating
Did you check out the Adirondack Ice Bowl and get inspired by the Pond Hockey players? You can always shovel off your own skating rink on a lake or pond. Always make sure the ice is safe first!
