October has always been my favorite time of the year. The cool crisp air, the new colorful landscape, and Halloween! There is still so much going on in the Adirondacks!
Try Your Hand at Keg Rolling
On the weekend of October 3rd and 4th, Oak Mountain has two events going on.
First, they have their Rider Appreciation Weekend for mountain biking. This will be their final biking weekend of the season, and they are offering discounted lift tickets that include camping for the weekend! Whether riding for fun, competing to win Sunday's race, or spectating this promises to be a good time.
Next, on October 4th, they have Oaktoberfest! This event is fun for all ages with activities from bouncy houses to keg rolling. They will also be running scenic chairlift rides. Check out this unique view of the fall foliage. They will have live music and great food prepared by Chef Lou. Don't forget your Lederhosen for the German Costume Contest!
Take the Family for a (Hay) Ride
Take a ride up to Blue Mountain Lake's Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake on October 3rd for their FallFest and Fiber Arts Fair, featuring many family-friendly activities. Go for a hay ride or pony ride, paint a pumpkin, or rake up a pile of leaves to jump into! There will be crafters on hand selling goods and live demonstrations all day!
Adirondack Kids Day
Also on October 3rd, a little further north, Inlet will be hosting Adirondack Kids Day. You can participate in the fishing derby, or if that's not your thing, get your face painted or take a horseback ride! They will also have a petting zoo and bouncy house. There will also be drawing lessons from Joyce Snavlin & Linda Reed, the author and illustrator of children's book Adirondack ABC's. Mark Manse from Adirondack raptors will give a presentation at 11 am on Birds of Prey.
Help Raise Breast Cancer Awareness
Come back to Inlet the following weekend for a great cause. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Pedals & Petals is doing their part by hosting the TREK Breast Cancer Awareness Ride. TREK's goal is to have over 10,000 people across the United States riding their bikes on the same day and the same time to show support for breast cancer patients and survivors and to fight to find a cure.
Celebrate the Fire in the Mountains
Long Lake will host their Fall Fire Festival and Harvest Craft Fair on October 10th to celebrate the "Mountains turning to fire." There will be handmade crafts for sale and carnival activities for the young ones.
Haunted House and Costume Contest (With live music!)
Put on your most clever costume and come on up to Oak Mountain for a spooky good time! On Saturday, October 24th they will host their annual Haunted House, costume contest, and live music from The Willie Playmore Band!
Turn It Into a Mini Vacation!
The holidays are coming up fast; why not take a little break before the mad dash to the end of the year? Book a room, make dinner reservations, and relax!
