Whitewater Rafting In the Adirondacks

Whitewater rafting in the Adirondacks

Whitewater Rafting is a highlight of the recreational opportunities available in the Adirondacks. Rafting trips through Hudson River Gorge begin in Indian Lake and offer a full-day of whitewater adventure. It's hard to believe, but the same section of river can be a heart pounding, big-wave, thrill ride or a picturesque family outing depending on the season. Outfitters, located in Indian Lake provide guests with a New York state Licensed Guide, all of the necessary equipment, and appropriate instruction for a great day on the water. There is no experience necessary to raft "The Gorge." There are a variety of qualified outfitters, to choose from with decades of experience, eager to show you the beauty of the Hudson River Gorge.

From winter chills to springtime thrills

When the snow that made skiing so great at Oak Mountain during the winter begins to melt, typically by the second week of April, the river swells, and becomes one of the premier whitewater rafting trips in the Northeast. Your New York state licensed guide will safely navigate you through the giant two-story standing waves in the Narrows, and one-mile long Carter's rapid. Outfitters will supply just about everything you need to keep you warm on your springtime adventure.

Serene summer rafting

Rafting in the Hudson Gorge in the summertime takes on a much different personality than the spring. The pace is slower giving guests more time to enjoy swimming in the river and to take in the spectacular scenery. Summer rafting is ideal for family outings. Regularly scheduled dam releases from Lake Abanaki ensure plenty of whitewater excitement while the relaxed pace allows guests to enjoy everything the river corridor has to offer.

Fall foliage in the Gorge

There is no better way to experience Adirondack fall foliage than in the Hudson River Gorge. A whitewater rafting trip allows guests to view spectacular fall colors in a wilderness setting from the comfortable seat of a raft. This a quiet time to be on the river. At times you may feel like you and your guide have the river to yourselves.

Leave No Trace and Love Your ADK

The magic of the Adirondacks is the result of previous generations taking a long view and protecting the mountains, lakes, and rivers within the Blue Line. That tradition continues today as we support and encourage everyone to practice Leave No Trace ethics, which help protect the lands and waters of the Adirondacks.
