How to get there

From the intersection of Route 8 and Route 10 in Piseco, follow Route 8 toward Lake Pleasant. Continue for just over 3.5 miles to the Northville-Placid Trail trailhead on the right.

Hiking

Follow the storied Northville-Placid Trail for 1.3 miles towards Northville. The delicate rolling hills will drop you slightly before bringing you only a bit higher than the trailhead to the vly.

At 1.3 miles you will come to a footbridge over the outlet of Buckhorn Lake. Before crossing the bridge, drop down along the outlet for a picturesque small waterfall. Continue down the outlet to Dead Vly. The vly in the spring can be very wet and you won’t be able to get real close, but as the summer progresses that changes.

Birding

The remoteness makes it a good spot for birding and wildlife viewing.
